(ROCHELLE PARK, NJ) Barstool Sports, the popular media company founded by Dave Portnoy, awarded its first grant to a New Jersey small business struggling from the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nanni Ristorante on West Passaic Street received its infusion of cash in January after submitting a video message to the The Barstool Fund.
“We’ve been open every day through this, we have a huge cast and crew here that have been working with us, some for over 30 years,” explained Rob Moreira, the son of longtime owner Manny Moreira, a former Personal Chef to Frank Sinatra. “We appreciate what you guys are doing for the the service industry.”
The Barstool Fund, which has collected more than $30 million in donations since its inception, doles out grants to support small businesses around the country that continue to pay their employees and have been negatively impacted by forced closures and loss of revenue stemming from the pandemic.
According to Rob Moreira, the grant money was received within 72 hours, according to a report on NorthJersey.com.
“This money is going to our employees and to pay current expenditures,” he said. “Some people have a skewed perception, thinking the money is going right into the owner’s pocket. It’s not.”
