(ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) Stephen Starr, the Philadelphia-based restaurateur heading Starr Restaurants group, is throwing in the towel at his New Jersey restaurants and has officially announced that he has permanently closed the Continental and Buddakan, both of which were situated in the former Playground Pier, after having been shuttered since the start of the pandemic.
“It was a nice run, but we had to say goodbye,” Starr said in an interview with the Associated Press. “We couldn’t continue in this environment with the coronavirus and the current state of the pier. There was barely anyone left there except us.”
Starr’s restaurant group operates 19 eateries in Philadelphia. Despite recent closures, Starr reassured customers that his restaurant business isn’t going anywhere, according to a report in the Philly Voice.
“We are surviving in many other places,” said Starr in a report published in the The Press of Atlantic City. “But, to open just before winter, during the virus on an empty pier in Atlantic City would have been a disaster.”
